Throughout my time at Penn State, I was very involved with professional organizations in my field. Specifically, I maintained active membership in ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association), and NAfME (National Association for Music Education); I also attended many of their conferences, sessions, and seminars. The reason I remained active in these groups is because of the benefit and value of professional development. I learned so much from each of these organizations, and I look forward to continuing my growth as a teacher in the future through these organizations!
I am also an active member of several honors societies, including Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Pi Lambda Theta National Education Honor Society, and Mortar Board National Honor Society.
Though I am currently searching for a teaching job, I do have professional goals beyond my first job. At some point, I am interested in pursuing a master's degree in choral conducting; this is a degree that would help me to grow as a teacher and conductor but would also directly impact my students and their education. Depending upon my career as a music teacher, I may want to pursue a doctoral degree in either choral conducting or music education, but luckily for me, time is on my side!
